Summary:

Careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) is an essential part of the support we offer to students at Ormiston Venture Academy. The education, information, advice and guidance we offer begins in Year 7 and runs right throughout a student’s time at the Academy.

The aims of the Ormiston Venture Academy careers programme are:

  • To provide up to date and impartial guidance to all students.
  • To encourage students to be ambitious, broaden their horizons and explore their own career aspirations throughout their life at the Academy.
  • To ensure students’ readiness to take their next step in their learning or career.
  • To help students to understand the changing world of work
  • To facilitate meaningful encounters with employers for all students
  • To support positive transitions post-16 to reduce the chances of students becoming NEET.
  • To enable students to develop the research skills to find out about opportunities
  • To help students to develop key employability skills, attitudes and qualities to make a successful transition into the world of work
  • To encourage participation in continued learning, including further and higher education and
  • apprenticeships
  • To support inclusion, challenge stereotyping and promote equality of opportunity
  • To contribute to strategies for raising achievement, particularly by increasing motivation.

Our careers programme below is available for all stakeholder to see, and is introduced to students early in Year 7. Staff are able to access the careers policy via the Academy’s handbook and often take a lead in specific sessions.

Parents have the opportunity to learn more about the programme during Academic Review Days, our annual careers fair and at parents’ evenings. Employers can view the Provider Access Policy Statement which outlines entitlements and opportunities for access, with contact details above.

When monitoring the success of the careers programme, the Academy considers formal and informal measures, qualitative and quantitative outcomes for students.

The careers programme is evaluated in a number of ways, including:

  • Student feedback on their experience of the careers programme
  • Staff feedback on careers sessions, mock interviews and different workshops
  • Gathering informal feedback from external partners and from parents
  • Quality assurance of careers sessions as part of the PL time programme and student destination figures post-16.

The Academy measures and assesses the impact of the careers programme by monitoring destination data and collecting feedback from key stakeholders.

The Academy works alongside local Further Education and apprenticeship providers to ensure students progress onto relevant pathways post-16 which allows them to achieve their potential.

The date of the next review is Summer Term 2024
