Recovery Curriculum
Dear Parent/Carer,
I am excited to write to you today about an opportunity for your child to receive fully funded tutoring at the academy. This is offered through a national tutoring programme proven to have a significant impact on learning and is worth the equivalent of £250. As you may be aware, the government has provided schools with extra funding to support young people catch up with missed learning due to COVID-19 and also to provide additional targeted support via the National Tutoring Programme.
Currently, on top of the curriculum pupils engage with in lessons, pupils have access to a wide range of effective academic support:
- Extended learning
- Knowledge organisers
- Raise Rooms
- Academic Tutoring
- Learning Gurus
In addition to these, I am thrilled to announce we will be offering two further tutoring programmes to support pupils in their studies.
Firstly, pupils will have the opportunity to engage with a tutoring programme in English or Maths delivered by MyTutor. This is an online tutoring service that provides weekly 1 hour sessions for pupils, with each tutor teaching 3 pupils at a time. The tutor will cover personalised content, as identified by the pupils’ class teacher in order to catch up with any gaps in knowledge. The programme will consist of 15 sessions of 1 hour, once per week. These sessions will take place in the Academy during period 6 (after school). We cannot guarantee that every pupil in the Academy will be able to take part in the tutoring, but we will look to place as many pupils as is possible. "More details about the start date will be communicated in due course"
Secondly, we now offer a thriving working breakfast club at the Academy. Pupils are able to come in to the Academy at 7.45 on a Monday and Friday, will receive a free breakfast and have a lesson that will support them in English and Maths. These sessions will directly extend and support the curriculum and will give pupils the best possible opportunity to rapidly progress in their lessons, boost their confidence in English and Maths, and explicitly overcome common mistakes. These sessions are ongoing and no sign up is necessary.
